International IDEA is an intergovernmental organization, formed in 1995, with a membership of 35 countries. Its headquarters are in Stockholm, Sweden with an additional 19 offices across the globe with a mandate to advance democracy worldwide. International IDEA approached Africa Insights Consulting (AIC) to develop and facilitate a Host Country Agreement (HCA) with the Government of Kenya in 2022 as part of its goal to set up a regional office for Africa and West Asia in Nairobi, Kenya, and foster a close working relationship with the Government. AIC was able to quickly engage the top leadership of the Government to start negotiations. The initial negotiations proved to be tough and during certain periods it appeared that we would not find common ground on key issues of importance.
AIC proved to be a resilient and trustworthy partner in advocating for International IDEA’s interests through skillfully and persistently lobbying within Government circles to overcome difficult obstacles. Eventually, we were able to find common ground which led to a successful Host Country Agreement where International IDEAs interests were approved by the Government. Additionally, AIC also engaged with various Government departments to start programs and projects of mutual interest that will undoubtedly foster closer relations in years to come.
